Exploring possibilities of wireless style transfers (bluetooth, wifi, etc)

The manual tells us that Bluetooth is for connecting to audio devices. I can play music from my android smartphone through the keyboard. Bluetooth is on all the time on my Genos2. When I take away the USB connection, then I get no Midi in and out and no active transfer button.

Now I also have connected the keyboard to my home wireless LAN, and this is meant to be used with some Yamaha apps. https://usa.yamaha.com/products/apps/index.html

Again i get no connection with styleplayer site. Have you programmed for connection by wireless LAN? Information is to be found in Genos2 Owners manual and Yamaha Smart Device Connection Manual.

jenygard No I didn't do anything specifically for supporting wireless connectivity (and not sure if I even can do anything there through a website), I was hoping maybe it detects bluetooth as a regular midi port and it just works...

To make sure it's not a problem with this specific site you can also try accessing these midi test pages via bluetooth and see if they show any signs of life:

I have run the test. Nothing is coming over when I take away the USB-connection. So it doesn't work out of the box.

There is the MD-BT01 midi adapter that goes into MIDI terminals and connects with Ipad/IOS only. So MIDI over Bluetooth exists, but not for Android.

But MIDI over wireless LAN seems to exist on Genos2. In the Genos2 reference manual, you find on page 153 a diagram with this title:
MIDI transmission/reception via the USB terminal, Wireless LAN, and MIDI terminals

You have to download the manual to see the diagram. The wireless LAN exist only on Genos1 and 2, not SX, I don't know for Tyros. Many Yamaha apps are for Ipad/Mac only, so I don't how to test it. In the apps that I have seen you have to choose a specific device to connect to, like MD-BT01.

In the Mobilesheets manual, there is a discussion on connections via Bluetooth. You will find it here: https://www.zubersoft.com/mobilesheets/MobileSheetsPro.pdf When I choose Bluetooth connection in the settings, Mobilesheets doesn't find my keyboard. I still believe Yamaha doesn't offer Bluetooth MIDI in the keyboards, only as external option.

You need someone with an Ipad with or without the MD-BT01 to test further, I think.

Install Expansion Packs from a computer (instead of using a USB flash drive)
Playing Audio songs from a smartphone, tablet or Mac computer (instead of a wired connection to the AUX IN jacks). As far as I know it also works with Windows, but only if a special driver is installed.
MIDI transmit and receive. Note that this is only available for MIDI Port 1, i.e. the internal MIDI Port 2 cannot be used via MIDI-over-WiFi.

MIDI-over-WiFi can be used with smartphones/iPhone, tablets/iPad and Mac computers directly. As far as I know, a MIDI network driver must be installed on Windows computers, e.g. "rtpMIDI":

jenygard Thank you for doing the detailed research!
From a website I don't have access to wifi or even to USB ports directly, only to midi ports (that can underneath rely on USB cable or wifi or some adaptor, it is all hidden away). So the only hope for it to work through a website is if bluetooth connection (or any other way of connection) would be recognized as a regular midi port (that you can see in any software, like in your DAW).
So if that wifi driver would make it recognized as a midi port it might work. For transfers we need access to 1 midi in and 1 midi out, so if the second midi out is not accessible it's ok.

I unfortunately run the least supported platform, Android on tablets. The Tobias Erichsen midi prosject is running on Windows. Other drivers is for Ipads. Both these platforms are widely used, but you need someone else to test.
