Style search improvement ideas

This is what I want to do: I own a Genos2 and want to find factory styles on other keyboards (preferably the newer ones) that is not already on my keyboard. So I go to Styles and choose my keyboard on dropdown to get all that is playable, which is a lot. Then I choose Factory styles on second dropdown and sort by name. I was first mistaken to believe that I now had filtered out factory styles that are preset on Genos2, but that turned out to be wrong. I get all factory styles from every compatible keyboard. That is also good, but I need to exclude Genos2 preset factory styles. I also need to exclude variants that are factory styles on other keyboards, identifiable by identical names. May be a include/exclude button in the right place could be a solution? The reason for the need, is that I feel that we are in danger of developing an information overload problem that is only going to be worse as new styles with variants and songs are added.

jenygard Yeah makes sense, thank you for the suggestion. We definitely need more advanced filters, that's something on my todo list, now probably would be a good time to work on it since we now store tons of useful info about each style that we didn't have before.

We can do really interesting filters like styles containing OTS, styles containing a certain voice in OTS/main part, styles of the exact compatibility level with a given keyboard, being able to exclude a certain criteria, etc.

I am going to rename this thread into a general search improvement suggestions, if anyone got any other ideas for the kind of searching they want to be able to perform please post them here.

Here's a suggestion for further down the track.

I notice many pages have the "Transfer Styles Directly.....Select Midi Output" web part. In my case I've only had to configure for my keyboard once so it appears, to me, as an unnecessary use of real estate. I understand that while the user base grows it makes sense to have it everywhere - and maybe users with multiple keyboards need it? Potentially there could be a "Get Connected" option with everything, including how-to instructions, there?

Hello, I second that but sometimes Yamaha itself, renames the same factory style between models, so filter by name could not be sufficient.
Maybe a "signature" fingerprint number calculated from the midi data for each style in the server could give the percentage of musical similarity between styles.
Apps like Shazam use this technology with audio to search for song match.

igbro And that's why we have "Adaptations" - same styles across keyboards (or revoiced by people to work on different keyboards). They don't have to be named the same but can be grouped. Currently this grouping is done manually, so not 100% reliable, but there is such option. So we can totally do the filter that says "give me factory styles that are not present on my keyboard even if they are named differently" (assuming the styles are properly grouped).
There are ways to improve this grouping, we can totally try to automate it, and we don't need something so complex like Shazam, this can be done much simpler by finding similar sequences of midi events.

Can you add "Time Signature" to the style search?
This will be very convenient if you need to find styles like 3/4 or 6/4 or 6/8 and so on.
