jenygard On voting: I feel not good to rate down someone elses contribution, because that style may sound good on another keyboard model, it may represent a different take on how to play that piece, or we may have a different taste in music. I may download a style, think that it sounds nothing like the original, or that it sounds terrible on my keyboard (Genos2), but would I rate it to a 1? No! Not at the moment.
I think you should rate it with 1 star if it doesn't sound good. I would understand not willing to rate a Genos2 made style with 1 star when you have an ancient keyboard that doesn't support most of the voices, but if it doesn't sound good on Genos2 itself it won't sound any better on any older keyboards. Genos is fully backward compatible with everything that was before it, what you hear on Genos is exactly how it sounds on other keyboards. We can try separating the ratings for different keyboards but I feel it would be too segmented.
jenygard I think that the idea should not be that users upload rubbish stuff, then other users rate it low and it goes away. It is very important that the quality of the styles is good from the start and that duplicates are avoided.
How can we make sure the quality is good from the start? I wish we could automatically tell if a style is good or not, but it's impossible. The only way to make sure we haver a quality content is to rely on people votes: you see a bad style, you rate it low, and it goes away. I don't see anything wrong with this approach, it's exactly how I hoped it would work.
We just need more people engaged in voting, If we got 100s of votes per style, the average rating would be more or less representative of a style quality. Yes it's across different keyboards and from different people with different tastes, but on average a good style should be rated higher than a bad style after a large amount of votes.
Ideally I want people to vote each time they download a style. No matter if you think you are qualified to make an educated evaluation or not. Just rate it how you feel. If your vote does not align with what the majority thinks no harm is made - it will be overshadowed with other votes. So if you think it deserves 1 start but 10 other people think it deserves 5 star the overall rating will be (5*10+1)/11 = 4.63, which should be a reasonable representation of an overall quality.
So please, vote as much as you can. Each vote is what improves the site quality.
